I am happy to provide an as-needed service. Please contact me for a fee proposal for any scope of work.
The first half hour for any hourly rates work is free.
I use budget and practical reasoning to narrow down options. I work in an ad-hoc manner and am very flexible, I draw and draft myself. I offer affordable expertise at a good hourly rate or a lump sum for a larger scope of service from concept to project delivery. Projects range in scale from an hour's great advice for a quick whole-house remodel to flip your property yourself, to redo an ensuite, build an addition, add a tiny house or granny flat, build a brand new house, subdivide and develop. I'm very interested in and experienced with passive solar design principles, character homes, residential local vernacular, heritage, R-Codes and local authorities.
I am particularly useful to advise, design and draw as necessary on small scale character projects (think 'old house on a good street' and see my tips here) and have had a lot of exposure to that. Love working for effective short stints with clients who are flipping their property on a timeline, to a budget and within reason. I am happy to work with retaining existing character while 'pruning' dilapidated or dysfunctional parts and have a keen eye and sensible suggestions. I work with family spaces and always provide an uplifting, light-filled solution using windows, skylights, materiality, shade, shadows and sun. Design aspects of verticality, volume, layers, implied space, sustainability, sun-path, character and views are my took kit.
I have a passion for Perth's heritage, for mentoring, for regionalism, service to community and site custodianship. I often work with Moss Johnson and the build team at Wandoo Design & Construction Pty. Ltd. Sometimes my designs are built by Wandoo, and often I collaborate with other builders.
Please contact me for a list of character referees.
